Minnetonka, Minn. – Today, as the 2024 legislative session gets underway, Jim Schultz, President of the Minnesota Private Business Council, expressed his concern over the direction the state is heading under far-left one-party rule. The 2023 session, marked by record spending, tax increases, and extreme policy shifts, was among the most hard-left in Minnesota history and has negatively impacted Minnesota’s workers, businesses, and communities.

“Last year’s legislative session overlooked the priorities of Minnesotans, imposing significant financial burdens on the state’s economy and its people. The passage of $10 billion in tax hikes, including a 0.25% sales tax hike, a 50-cent delivery fee, a 0.75% metro area sales tax, and a 20% increase in the gas tax are just a few examples of the policies that amidst rising inflation have compounded the financial strain on hardworking Minnesotans,” said Schultz. “And now we hear of efforts to double down this session, including through another massive sales tax hike. It’s time to stop the fiscal insanity that is crushing businesses of all sizes, along with the finances of everyday Minnesotans.”

The Minnesota Private Business Council is committed to actively opposing these hard-left policies.

Schultz concluded, “As the 2024 legislative session kicks off, all Minnesotans should advocate for a return to sensible governance. We must end the uncontrolled spending, the bizarre tax hikes, and the strange policies that are so out of step with ordinary Minnesotans. The future of Minnesota depends on it.
